Little Bay Beach
Little Bay Beach, despite its diminutive name, should hardly be overlooked by the avid beachgoer visiting St. Maarten. It’s located on the southern side of the island, just to the west of Great Bay. While not nearly as crowded as Great Bay Beach, it’s still quite convenient to get to, and offers lots of opportunity for whatever floats your boat, so to speak.
Amenities abound, with restaurants, shopping, and more just off the sand. The beach sits at the foot of Fort Amsterdam. It’s near enough to Front Street in Philipsburg to enjoy any of the pleasures the city has to offer, but you’re bound to find fewer people than up the coast to the east. There is a watersports rental shop on the beach, so if you prefer to get out and actually do something it’s available.
This is a particularly good place to snorkel. The bay is usually very calm, which means no sand stirred up and very good visibility. There are a number of reefs off shore that have plenty to see, and the calm water makes for easy swimming.
