Long Bay
Long Bay is aptly named, since it’s the longest stretch of white, sandy beach on St. Maarten. Starting at Cupecoy, it runs along the southern edge of the island to the farthest point on the west. The large size means there’s plenty of room to spread out. It shouldn’t feel crowded even if there’s lots of people.
Long Bay offers its beach the way nature intended: unspoiled and natural. There aren’t any facilities or amenities provided here; no shopping, rentals, or food sales. But beauty and tranquility are served up in heaping portions, as is the sun and fresh sea breezes. So bring along a snack and something to drink, a beach towel, and maybe a good book.
On some days it might be a good spot to snorkel, but the lack of any real reefs will cut down on interesting sights to see, and the sometimes-rough surf will probably make many think twice before donning their snorkels and fins.
