St. Thomas Information
St. Thomas is a US Territory, which means that US citizens can visit the island without the need for a passport - unless, of course, they are coming from another country (as will often be the case when traveling ona cruise ship).

The capital of St. Thomas is Charlotte Amalie, which is most popular cruise port in the entire Caribbean. It's easy to see why - the city offers just about everything one could want while on vacation: excellent dining, a variety of nightlife, and shopping. In fact, Charlotte Amalie is known the shopping mecca of the Caribbean.

What really stands out about St. Thomas is the coexistence of phenomenal natural beauty with a cosmopolitan atmosphere. Luxurious amenities meet up with undisturbed natural surroundings to form the perfect destination. Lush vegetation grows up and down the mountainous terrain, but it's never more than a few minutes to get to shopping or food.

St. Thomas: Things to do
So what is there to do? The list is so long, we'll only mention a few. Of course, it offers a little something for everyone. Here are a few of the favorites of visitors to the island:

Coral World Marine Park and Observatory - a preserve dedicated to life in the sea and along it's shores. It offers a tropical nature trail, a marine gardens aquarium, an underwater observation tower, and a coral reef tank of 80,000 gallons. There's also a shark pool and a touch pool, separate of course. :)

Fort Christian - this brick fortress is a US National Landmark and the oldest structure still standing in all of the Virgin Islands. The brick fortress was constructed in 1672 to protect the people from pirates and armadas. It now houses a museum.

Mountain Top - a lookout point on the top of one of the islands mountain tops. You can reach it via cable car lift. They are famous for their banana daiquiris, which they have been serving since sometime in the 1960s.

Whales - from January through April humpback whales can be seen breeding off the north end of the island. It's a popular enough spot among the whales that numerous TV specials have been filmed at St. Thomas, including one by 'Wild Kingdom'.

Beaches, beaches, beaches - Magen's Bay is recognized by both National Geographic and Conde Nast Traveler as one of the worlds most beautiful beaches. Who are we to argue? Of course, we have information on all of the beaches of St. Thomas and each of them has something to offer.

St Thomas is a great island my girlfriend and I took a royal caribbean cruise and it was one of the island we visited. Hopefully this fall we can go back but probably fly down and stay on another island for a few days so there's no rush with having to get back to the boat.
