Watermelon Cay

Watermelon Cay has something in common with many of the other beaches - you can't drive up to it. Unlike most of the other beaches though, you also can't hike to it! Watermelon Cay is a small island located about 200 yards off shore from St. John. You will have to either take a boat, or swim to it. If you are a decent swimmer it shouldn't be much trouble, although a couple people have reported occasionally active seas on the way out.

Renowned as some of the best snorkeling in the Virgin Islands, if you're into fish, coral, or other sea life you won't want to miss this one. Hard and soft coral abound, as well as tangs, snappers, parrotfish, grouper, butterflys, angels, flounder, barracuda, starfish, turtles, rays, and nurse sharks.

You can get to Watermelon Cay by walking along Leinster Bay to the extreme east end, and then swimming directly across to the island.

Of course, there are no facilities, amenities, or services available at Watermelon Cay.
